PETER Barnes believes Westcliff could have a season to remember.

The first team will welcome Epping to Chalkwell Park for a Division Three clash tomorrow.

Although Barnes’ side have made a fine start to the campaign, sitting second in the standings, the captain feels the whole club is in good shape.

Barnes said: “Quite a few new players have joined us over the winter, which has strengthened Westcliff across all of our sides.

“We have made a solid start to the season and players are performing well with bat and ball.

“Division Three is the strongest it has looked for a number of years so we are taking it game-by-game at the moment.

“But we are full of confidence going into this weekend’s game against Epping.”

Westcliff have made an unbeaten start to the campaign, having beaten Woodford Green on the opening day and drawn with Goresbrook last time out.

And they will be eager to extend their promising run of form when they host a bottom-of-the-table Epping side.

The visitors have garnered just one point so far this term and have struggled with both bat and ball.

Elsewhere, Leigh will do battle with Ardleigh Green & Havering-Atte-Bower tomorrow.

Joe Sexton’s side are back in Division Three after suffering relegation from Division Two last term.

And Leigh will be looking to get back to winning ways on home soil this weekend.

After getting the new season underway with an impressive bowling display which allowed them to seal an eight-wicket victory over Epping, Leigh lost to Walthamstow by five wickets last time out.

As a result, Leigh find themselves fourth in the standings and 10 points adrift of the promotion places.

But Ardleigh Green will prove to be a tough side to beat as they are only one point and place worse off in the early stages of the campaign.

Ardleigh Green head to Leigh having enjoyed an opening day triumph over Walthamstow and lost at Harlow.

And both sides will be eager to boost their promotion hopes by coming out on top tomorrow.
