STEVEN ALZATE is more than happy to be Graham Potter’s flexible friend.

The 20-year-old played at right-back in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Wolves at the Amex.

It was his FIFTH different position under head coach Potter this season.

He played left wing-back when he first came into the team and since then he has also played as right wing-back, part of a front three and also in his favoured position of central midfield.

Despite having to adapt to the demands of different positions he is more than willing to do it to help the team.

He said: “I’m just adapting myself at right-back as I haven’t played there too much and I am filling in right now.

“I have played in five positions this season, but I am happy to play anywhere to be honest. I’d rather play in midfield, that is my main position, but if I have to play right-back or left wing-back then I will happily do it for the team.”

Alzate has experienced a whirlwind four months. He played against AFC Wimbledon at the start of September for the under-23s in a 2-0 win.

Just 18 days later he made his Premier League debut in the 0-0 draw at Newcastle. Since then he has started seven of Albion’s 11 Prem games.

Alzate received a senior call up to the Colombia squad in November, making his debut off the bench against Peru and then starting in another 1-0 win over Ecuador.

But Alzate is trying to take it all in his stride.

He said: “It has been a crazy four months and now I have just got to take it as it comes.

“I can’t really be too overwhelmed about it, “I have just got to keep my head down and keep going because it is only the beginning.”
