SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell was frustrated by his side’s defending in tonight’s 3-1 defeat at Doncaster Rovers.

Blues had been hoping to build on their 2-1 win at Accrington Stanley last time out.

But the Shrimpers were unable to trouble their hosts, much to the frustration of Campbell.

“Doncaster are a great passing team but it is what it is and they’re going to keep the ball,” said Campbell.

“We had a couple of chances here and there and played some good football.

“But we were just lacking in some defensive moments when we allowed them in the box.

“It was poor from us to let them come inside and shoot.”

Blues had been hoping to get their own back on Doncaster after suffering a 7-1 defeat against them back in October.

And, despite the setback, Campbell felt there were still signs of promise from his side.

“Last time we played Doncaster it was a massacre but the lads trained really well this week and they’ve given a great account of themselves,” said Campbell.

“They just have to keep on fighting and we have to get back together “It’s a difficult place to come but we’ve come on since I’ve come here.

“They’re a great team and have 10 times our budget.

“They invest in the players but we have to patch up and go again.”
