ADAM Barrett has topped an Echosport poll on who Southend United supporters want to succeed Sol Campbell as the Shrimpers' next manager.

Close to 2,500 fans cast their vote and it was Barrett who finished first with almost 50 per cent of the selections.

Barrett remains a popular figure with the Roots Hall faithful having grown up supporting the club he also won three promotions with as a player.

The 40-year-old made 354 appearances for the Shrimpers and has been first team coach at Millwall since March 2017.

Another Blues legend, Kevin Maher, took second place in the poll with 21 per cent of the votes.

Maher made 455 appearances for the Shrimpers as a player and did an impressive job in charge of the club’s under 23 team before leaving to become first team coach at Bristol Rovers last summer.

Former MK Dons and Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale finished third in the vote.
