Time is back on the BBC for its third series, with David Tennant and Siobhan Finneran leading the cast.

Each series of the crime drama presents a new scenario following the lives of inmates and staff in His Majesty's Prison Service.

The third series follows prison chaplain Marie-Louise (Siobhan Finneran), who comes to the young offender institution and clashes with veteran officer Bailey (David Tennant).

A synopsis for series three reads: "Prison Chaplain Marie-Louise comes to the young offender institution having lost her faith.

"When tragedy strikes in the prison, Marie-Louise clashes with veteran officer Bailey, a man in the midst of his own crisis.

"Bailey knows more about the circumstances that led to this major incident – but will he come clean before the guilt gets too much?

"Meanwhile, two teenage young offenders, Peter (Ollie McNulty) and James (Louis McCartney), struggle through the terrifying first weeks and months of their incarceration.

"Can James ever face his broken parents after an unforgivable act of violence and will Peter tell the truth about the death of an innocent man, or does family loyalty mean more?

"An unlikely friendship between them looks to shift the trajectory of their futures, but in an increasingly unstable environment, is change ever possible?"

Is Time series 3 the last one?

Time series 3 will likely be the last of the popular BBC drama.

Speaking about a possible fourth series, Time’s creator Jimmy McGovern told Radio Times: “I think this will be the last Time.

“I have said that many a time before, though, because these are also stories I feel bound to tell.”

Time premiered in 2021, with the first series starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham.

Meanwhile, the second series was set in a women’s prison, starring Jodie Whittaker, Siobhan Finneran, Bella Ramsey, and Tamara Lawrance.
